National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia is investigating the possibility of introducing a digital version of the country's official currency, the Macedonian Denar, said the governor of the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia Anita Angelovska Bezhoska.

"If analyzes show that digital money needs to be introduced, I hope that at one of the next celebrations of Monetary Independence Day we will talk about digital money as the official means of payment in the country," Angelovska Bezhoska said on Wednesday in a transcript of her speech at the country's monetary independence ceremony.

The Macedonian Denar has been the country's official currency since 1993.

The European Central Bank (ECB) is currently working on plans for the introduction of the digital euro, Indicator reminds.
