The "Srbija Inovira" project, which is jointly implemented by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the ICT Hub, and the "Digital Serbia" Initiative, have published a Guide for angel investing in Serbia, in order to help potential business angels and startups to better understand the advantages and the angel investment process itself, as well as different options for investing from a tax and legal perspective.

The press release explained that angel investing represents an important boost to the domestic startup ecosystem, because business angels provide startups not only with financial resources, but also with their business knowledge and experience.

It is added that the community of business angels in Serbia is continuously growing and is made up of wealthy individuals who support startups by investing funds, time, contacts and knowledge in their development. The key value of business angels is that they invest in companies while they are still at a very early stage of development and most often actively participate in the development of the company.

"In recent years, we have seen an increase in supply and demand in Serbia, when it comes to angel investing. There are more and more startups that already in the early stages of development demonstrate serious potential for growth and more and more people who want to invest in them. Public communication of these investments is very important because it gives the ecosystem, i.e. startups, a signal that this kind of support is available," said Nataša Škrbić, program director for the startup ecosystem in the "Digital Serbia" Initiative.

On the other hand, as she emphasized, the greater number of domestic investors is an excellent indicator for foreign investors that there is trust and potential in the business ecosystem.

According to Slobodan Zebić, head of the team for access to financing sources within the project "Serbia Innovates" in the country and in the region, the interest in investing in innovative startup companies by wealthy individuals is constantly growing.

"Considering all the challenges that this type of investment brings with it, both on the side of angel investors, and on the side of startup companies in the earliest stages of business, it is important that there are projects and initiatives that provide expert support and give a sense of security." All this is a good signal that increases the attractiveness of our market for investments by domestic and foreign investors, including angels," Zebić pointed out.
