"The path of green transition is a permanent commitment of the Republic of Serbia and we are taking all necessary measures to make the transition to clean energy financially and socially sustainable and fair," said the Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović at the "Green Transition" conference, organized by the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Embassy of the Republic of France in Belgrade.

The minister emphasized that the construction of new capacities that use renewable sources should be coordinated with the development of the transmission and distribution power network, so that the development of the energy sector would be sustainable, efficient, economical and lead to a higher degree of energy security and safety, reports energetskiportal.rs.

"Priority projects, which should enable the sustainable use of new capacities of renewable sources of higher power, are first of all the reversible hydropower plants "Đerdap 3" and "Bistrica", but also the faster realization of the planned projects of the Electric Power Company of Serbia related to hydropower plants, wind and solar power plants. We must not forget green hydrogen either, as a huge potential and energy source of the future, which is now also recognized in the law as a renewable energy source", Đedović pointed out.

She reminded that at the moment the share of renewable energy sources in the energy mix of the Republic of Serbia is 26 percent in consumption and that 400 new megawatts are planned.

"We are working on improving the regulatory framework, so that in the medium term the network can receive eight times more capacity than the current one." At the same time, one of the important questions is whether the investors who use the sun and wind will contribute to the benefit of the citizens and the economy, or whether they will aim to export the entire production. I believe that we will find a model that is in the best interest of citizens, but also sustainable for investors," Minister Đedović said, according to the announcement.

According to her, the use of geothermal energy is in the initial phase and very modest in relation to the potential and resources, so one of the focuses in the coming period will be the greater use of geothermal energy.

She added that the Ministry of Mining and Energy, in this regard, is interested in exchanging professional experience with France, given that France is the leading European country in the field of geothermal energy.
