Photo: pexels.comProduction in construction increased in January 2022 compared to December 2021 by 3.9 percent in the European Union, but also in the eurozone, while compared to January last year it increased by more than 4.1 percent in the eurozone and by more than 4.8 percent in the EU, according to the EU Statistical Office (Eurostat).
"In January this year, compared to December 2021, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 3.9 percent in both the eurozone and the EU. In December last year, construction output fell 1.5 percent in the eurozone and 1.2 percent in the EU. "Production in construction in January this year, compared to January 2021, increased by 4.1 percent in the eurozone and by 4.8 percent in the EU", the Eurostat report explained.
In the eurozone, in January 2022, compared to December 2021, the construction of buildings increased by 4.2 percent, and public infrastructure by 1.4 percent. In the EU, the construction of buildings increased by 3.9 percent, while the other recorded a growth of 1.5 percent, writes biznis.rs.
Among the Member States for which data are available, Poland (+ 19 percent), Germany (+ 10.1 percent) and Romania (+ 8.3 percent) had the largest monthly increases in construction output. The largest reductions were recorded in Hungary (-6.3 percent), Belgium and the Netherlands (in both -1.3 percent) and Italy (-0.9 percent).
In January this year, compared to January 2021, work on public projects in the eurozone increased by 6.6 percent, while the construction of buildings increased by 3.5 percent. In the EU, public works increased by 6.1 percent, while buildings jumped by 4.3 percent.
The largest annual increase in production in construction was observed in Poland (+ 18.4 percent), Italy and Romania (+ 13.2 percent each) and Germany (+ 12.3 percent). The largest reductions were recorded in Belgium (-14.4 percent), Slovakia (-3.6 percent) and France (-2.6 percent).
In Serbia, 1,702 building permits were issued in January, which is 15 percent more than in January last year, according to data from the Republic Bureau of Statistics (SORS). Of the total number of permits issued in January, 78.8 percent refers to buildings, and 21.2 percent to other buildings.
Considering only the buildings, 78.2 percent of permits were issued for residential and 21.8 percent for non-residential buildings, while for other buildings the largest part refers to pipelines, communication and power lines (60.8 percent).
According to permits issued in January in Serbia, the construction of 1,547 apartments was reported, with an average area of 75.3 square meters.
As it was specified, 14.6 percent of the total housing construction will be houses, with an average area of 150.8 square meters, and 82.8 percent of apartments will be built in buildings with three or more apartments and their average area will be 60.1 square meters.
The highest construction activity is expected in Belgrade of 37.5 percent, of the projected value of new construction, followed by the Danube region (16.6 percent), South Bačka region (7.2 percent), Zlatibor region (4.7 percent) and Srem region (four percent), while the participation of other areas ranges from 0.2 percent to 3.5 percent.
