Photo: bgmetro.rsThe work on the embankment and terrain preparation on Makiško polje, in the location where the future metro depot will be built, marked the official start of the Belgrade metro construction project at the end of November. According to the plan for general rail system regulation, the first metro line will connect Železnik and Mirijevo, while the second would connect Mirijevo and Zemun. Both lines will be 21 kilometers long, and the first will be finished in 2028, while the second will be finished in 2030, as scheduled. The tram network and BG trains will be expanded as part of the same plan, so that by 2030, Belgrade will have 42 kilometers of subway, 223 kilometers of city and suburban railways, and 42.6 kilometers of new tram network, making the rail system the primary mode of public transportation in the city.
