For the first time in three years, Salone Del Mobile 2023 will take place from 18 to 23 April in Milan, keeping its traditional springtime dates. The 61st edition of the world largest furniture trade fair will bring together 1962 exhibitors, including more than 550 young talents under 35 and 27 design schools. The fair welcomes more than 370,000 visitors and presents thousands of brands showcasing furniture, lighting, electrical appliances, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor and workspace products.

The fair has announced plans for its 2023 edition, with a new cultural programme that will offer visitors to the fair an enhanced experience. 2023 also marks the return of its biennial light event, Euroluce, whose layout is inspired by urban planning to reimagine it as a ‘city of light’.

“People come to Salone to discover what’s new from the brands, but also to create connections. And this is what we missed. To create these connections, the layout of the fair is very important. So we decided to have an urbanistic approach. To think about the fair as a city, an ideal city, starting from the pavilions of Euroluce,” said Salone Del Mobile president, Maria Porro.

Euroluce 2023 (Pavilions 9-11 and 13-15) will feature a radical rethink of its pavilions. “We have been focusing on lighting as an object, on its shape. But light is increasingly connected to technology, to the way it reacts to human beings, how it influences how we experience a space“, says Porro.

The new layout will be inspired by Italian historic town centres, reimagining the fair as a city, for which Euroluce will serve as an experimental ground. As part of the change, the emerging design fair SaloneSatellite will be incorporated into the Euroluce pavilions, and in 2023 the focus will be on design schools with the theme of Building The (I’m)Possible. Process, Progress, Practice.

The concept “The City of Lights” will also be the main theme from which the cultural program draws its inspiration, this year presented in the spaces of Euroluce: from the interdisciplinary contents curated by Beppe Finessi, to the large piazza and arena of the biennial designed by Formafantasma, Aurore, for immersive and reflective experiences – but also a venue for various talks.

The new program of Talks, curated by Annalisa Rosso, with a particular focus on lighting, technology and sustainability, will enrich the event with conversations and debates held by the brightest voices on the contemporary design scene.

Environmental, economic and social responsibility will also be a priority at the 2023 edition of the Salone del Mobile, which has just received ISO 20121 certification for the sustainable organization of events.

Alongside Salone del Mobile, a variety of fringe events take place during the Milan Design Week, collectively known as Fuorisalone. What makes Fuorisalone so special is the fact that throughout the week, historical palazzos are taken over by brands, collectives and designers to showcase some of the most creative design installations.
