The construction of the highway section from Bijeljina to Rača, 20 kilometers long, began today in the Velika Obarska settlement, and the works should be completed in two and a half to three years.

The Bijeljina-Rača section is an extension of the highway from Belgrade to Sarajevo.

That highway will link to the new bridge on the Sava on the border with Serbia and the Kuzmin-Sremska Rača section of 18 kilometers in Serbia.

The ceremony on the occasion of the opening of the works, on the Day of Serb Unity, Freedom and the National Flag, a joint holiday of Serbia and Republika Srpska, was attended by the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, and the president of RS, Željka Cvijanović.

Vučić said that, at the time of a difficult economic crisis in the whole world, the sum of 100 million euros provided by Serbia for the financing of the construction of the road from Bijeljina to Rača, was not small, but that he was happy that infrastructure was being built that would connect Republika Srpska and Serbia and enable the arrival of investors, a quicker flow of people and goods.

He emphasized that the road section in Serbia would be completed within a year at the most and that the bridge on the Sava had already been completed. “This will mean life for Semberija” Vučić said.

Dodik said that he was grateful to Serbia for the help it provided to Republika Srpska in building roads.

He pointed out that, within the next four to five years, Banjaluka would be connected with Belgrade by highway and that he hoped that Republika Srpska would soon be part of the Open Balkans initiative, ekapija.com reports.
