When it turns 60 on September 1, the famous Maracana (officially called the "Rajko MitiĆ" stadium since 2014) will most likely be demolished. Such a fate "threatens" it from the current perspective, i.e., the plans in Crvena Zvezda, according to which the construction of a new football temple is well underway.

Numerous projects have been considered and analyzed over the years. Executive Director Zvezdan Terzić spoke about the best solution two months ago as a guest at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, according to Novosti.

"We would like to relocate the new stadium a bit north, about 300–400 meters, to be closer to Autokomanda because of the infrastructure and to avoid traffic jams. We have seen that every team that has constructed a stadium has increased the number of sold season tickets by three or four times and, as a result, the source of income, which is fixed. AEK in Athens is an example of a club with all parameters smaller than Crvena Zvezda, which increased from 6,000 to 22,000. They earn €16 million a year from tickets alone. We are planning, working on the project, and finalizing the financial structure," Terzić said.

The new Maracana will have a different location and a smaller capacity than the current one.

"Stadiums with athletic fields are no longer being built anywhere in the world. After analysis with a German company, another solution was found. The maximum capacity of the new stadium is 42,000. Forecasts predict that it will cost from 100 million to 120 million euros. If we were to build it on the existing land, we would have to demolish the Maracana," Terzić said.

It is estimated that the construction would take three to four years. During that period, Crvena Zvezda would most likely play outside of Belgrade.
