The Ministry of Mining and Energy would pay 230 million euros in subsidies for energy efficiency and solar panel installation next year, according to Zorana Mihajlović, Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy. Given that we now spend four times more than the EU average on energy, the goal is to reduce energy consumption at the national level. "Energy efficiency will practically provide us with another energy capacity," the minister explained, noting that "we throw the production of one thermal power plant out the window every year," adding that "if we have solar panels on only 10% of the total roof area in Serbia, we will get installed power equal to what EPS has today." The Ministry recently started the "Energy Efficiency – Turn Green" campaign, with the help of the European Union, to raise awareness of energy savings at all levels.
