For the fourth year running, Finland has been named the world's happiest nation to live in, according to the World Happiness Report's annual ranking. Of particular note is their ability to align politics with a general sense of well-being.

To determine the happiest country in the world, experts analyzed comprehensive survey data from 149 countries, specifically tracking performance in six categories. The categories are gross domestic product per capita, social policy, and healthy life expectancy. In addition, there is the freedom to make one's own life choices, the generosity of the population, and the level of corruption.

In order to properly compare each country's data, the researchers created a fictional country, Dystopia, full of the "happiest people in the world." Dystopia was a sample, a model based on which a unique composite score was created for each country. The model had to be evaluated in each category separately.

It is interesting that the first seven happiest countries in the world were all Northern European countries. Finland took first place for the fourth year in a row with a total score of 7,842. Finland is followed by Denmark with 7,620 points, Switzerland with 7,571 points, Iceland with 7,554 points, the Netherlands with 7,464 points, Norway with 7,392 points, and Sweden with 7,363 points.

The least happy country in the world to live in is Afghanistan, ranked 149th. The last five countries include Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Botswana, and Lesotho.

The best-placed countries from the region are Slovenia in 29th place, Serbia in 48th place, Croatia in 59th place, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 63rd place. They are followed by Montenegro and Macedonia in 71st and 92nd places, respectively.
